The Ontario coroner will hold an inquest starting Nov. 18 into the 2016 death of Abdirahman Abdi, 37, who died following a confrontation with police in Ottawa’s west end.

The coroner’s office had said in March that an inquest into Abdi’s death would be held, but the official date was only set on Friday.

Abdi, 38, died in hospital in Ottawa on July 25, 2016, one day after his arrest by officers from the Ottawa Police Service. An inquest into his death is mandatory under the Coroners Act.
