A driver managed to escape as their vehicle began to catch fire after it rolled in Navan early Monday morning.

At about 3:30 a.m., Ottawa Fire Services took a call from Ottawa police reporting a single-vehicle crash in the 3000 block of Frank Kenny Road, and that “someone was screaming for help, that there were electrical wires all over the road and the vehicle was starting to catch fire.”

After arriving at the scene, firefighters confirmed the lone occupant had exited the vehicle on their own and that the vehicle was on its side, on fire, in a ditch, the fire service said in a post on X. Still-live hydro lines were down and close to the vehicle, creating a hazard, and a utility line was also down across the vehicle.

Nevertheless, crews were able to bring the fire under control by 3:49 a.m. and hydro workers arrived at the location to cut the power to the lines.
