Two homes were destroyed, one home badly damaged and one firefighter sustained serious injuries in a large fire in Orléans on Tuesday morning.

Early this morning multiple 911 calls came in for a fire in a single-family home on Noblewood Way that was spreading to nearby houses, according to Ottawa Fire Services public information officer Nick Defazio.

Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed two homes were fully engulfed in flames, and the fire had spread to a third nearby home.

“A second alarm was declared upon arrival to dispatch additional resources to the scene,” Defazio said. “There was a high risk the fire could spread to more homes on the street behind Noblewood Way.”

Two vehicles inside garages were also on fire, and leaking oil, he said. A firefighter sustained second-degree burns on his hand while fighting the fire.

At about 6:30 a.m., all three homes were searched, and firefighters confirmed there were no people or pets inside. However, eight adults were displaced by the fire. Four of them have a place to stay, and the other four are being aided by the fire department’s victim assistance program.

The fires were declared under control shortly before 7 a.m. A “fire watch” has been established, with a truck remaining on the scene to monitor for any flare-ups, Defazio said.

An investigator has been dispatched to determine the cause of the fire.
