In a statement posted Tuesday on Linked In, CHEO president and CEO Alex Munter said five children were seen at CHEO and released. One child was admitted with injuries. Not other information was given.
A code orange, which brings together resources to respond to a potential disaster or mass casualty incident, was called shortly before 5 p.m. at CHEO, which is a Level 1 trauma centre.
Munter said the incident was not as serious as it could have been, but CHEO staff did not know this when the code orange was called.
“In fact, indications were that it could have been much worse,” said Munter, who praised the teamwork and quick action of CHEO staff. Resources were immediately redirected to the emergency department to prepare for the arrival of injured children.
The code orange was discontinued just after 7 p.m. Monday night.
The driver of the transport truck was not injured, said OPP. Officers from the Russell County detachment are investigating.
