Say it ain’t snow, because it’s freezing rain.
A low-pressure system sweeping through the region could bring freezing rain to the city Monday evening lasting into Tuesday morning, Environment Canada said in a special weather statement.
With temperatures expected to hover at zero degrees, the weather agency said the conditions were ripe for the frozen stuff to fall. But because it’s early in the season and temperatures have been relatively high, it isn’t clear how much will stick around.
“Ice accretion on the ground and road surfaces is expected to be variable as the ground is still relatively warm,” the statement said. “However, icy conditions are possible, especially on elevated surfaces like bridges, overpasses and untreated roadways.”
While the icy conditions were expected in the Ottawa area Nov. 25, the same weather system could bring as much as 10 cm of snow to the Algonquin region west of the city, according to the weather service.
