Snow is finally falling in the capital region, though the day’s morning commute was largely spared from chaos.

A special weather statement from Environment Canada said a low-pressure system is bringing heavy snow to the national capital region, beginning the morning of Dec. 4. The snow is expected to taper off early the next day.
“Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly,” the weather statement said. “Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.”
On Wednesday morning, school bus and special vehicle transportation was cancelled for the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario and the Upper Canada District School Board, though all schools remained open.
Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation said on social media that snow squall bands, heavy snow and blowing snow conditions are scattered across “many regions” in the province, with reduced visibility on many highways.
