In an online post, the Ottawa Police Service said the arrest was made after “de-escalation strategies” proved to be unsuccessful.
“The Ottawa Police Service supports the rights of all people to demonstrate in a peaceful manner, but our officers also have an obligation to take action to ensure community safety,” said the post, which did not identify the individual who was arrested.
City staff held the information session to describe the proposal to use the tent-like structures near the Nepean Sportsplex and in Kanata provide temporary housing and support services for asylum seekers.
