Two confirmed dead in Tuesday collision on Hwy 417 near Limoges

Westbound Highway 417 was reopened early Wednesday following a fatal collision near Limoges Tuesday afternoon.

In a release, Ontario Provincial Police said two people died Tuesday afternoon at about 3 p.m. in a crash between a transport truck and a car.

Police said initial information indicated both vehicles were engulfed in flames.

“Witnesses attempted to remove the occupants from the car but were unable to, due to the intensity of the flames and smoke,” police said.

The two occupants of the car were pronounced deceased at the scene. There was no further information available on the victims.

Police are working with the Office of the Chief Coroner to confirm the identity of the two victims.

The transport driver was not hurt.

Westbound lanes on the highway remained closed until about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Police asked that anyone with dashcam video or who witnessed the collision, and has not yet spoken with police, should contact Russell County OPP at 1 888 310-1122 and refer to incident number E240532150.

Limoges is about 45 kilometres southeast of Ottawa.
