Risk of freezing drizzle this morning, 15-25 mm of rain for Ottawa tonight and Wednesday

It will be a slippery, slushy commute across Ottawa this morning following the overnight freezing rain, but warm temperatures and heavy rain are on the way for today and Wednesday.

A freezing drizzle advisory remains in effect for the City of Ottawa and eastern Ontario.

“Periods of freezing drizzle will continue until later this morning when precipitation weakens or ends,” Environment Canada said in a statement.

“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Freezing drizzle can produce thin, hard-to-detect layers of ice.”

A total of 4.2 cm of snow and 1 mm of rain was recorded at the Ottawa Airport on Monday, with light freezing drizzle continuing overnight.

The forecast calls for mainly cloudy today with a 60 chance of freezing drizzle changing to a 40 per cent chance of drizzle or rain this morning. High 5 C.

Rain tonight. Environment Canada is calling for 10 to 15 mm of rain. Low 2 C.

Rain continuing on Wednesday, with another 5 to 10 mm expected. High 4 C.

Thursday will see a mix of sun and cloud with a chance of flurries. High -3 C.

The outlook for Friday calls for a mix of sun and cloud. High -4 C.

Saturday will be mainly cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of flurries. High -6 C.

The normal temperatures for this time of year are a high of -3 C and a low of -10 C.

Freezing drizzle advisory

There is a risk of freezing drizzle across eastern Ontario today.

Environment Canada has issued freezing drizzle advisories for Belleville, Brockville-Prescott, Cornwall-Lancaster, Deep River, Gananoque-Mallorytown, Kingston and Frontenac Islands, Maxville-Alexandria, Merrickville, Kemptville. Morrisburg, Long Sault, Petawawa-Pembroke, Cobden, Prescott and Russell, Renfrew-Arnprior, Calabogie, Smiths Falls, Perth, Westport, Winchester.

The advisory says patchy freezing drizzle will continue this morning.
