One of the first orders of business when Canada Post reopened its facilities on Dec. 17 after a weeks-long strike was to get its “Letters to Santa” program back in operation.
“The process of safely ramping up operations has begun,” the corporation said in a release on Dec. 18.
“Like always, letters to Santa are handled with special care.”
Canada Post said its scanners are programmed to recognize the HOH OHO postal codes on all Claus communications.

“This allows us to deliver these letters straight to the North Pole. We will be doing this for all Santa letters mailed by Dec. 23.”
Canada Post originally had a Dec. 6 deadline for letters to Santa. That deadline was removed due to the labour stoppage.
The agency has said the program has handled up to 1.5 million letters addressed to the North Pole from Canadian kids each year.
However, Canada Post concedes that “Santa won’t have time to respond to letters received through the mail this year, (but) we want to let children know that their letters will make it to him by Christmas Eve.”
In fact, “Santa is looking forward to reading all the letters” that he receives.
“We wish everyone from coast to coast to coast a merry and joyous Christmas,” the Canada Post release said.
