Ottawa police start year by catching two G2 stunt drivers

New year, same issues in Ottawa with motorists not respecting speed limits.

The Ottawa police traffic unit was out in full force monitoring for people driving well above the speed limits on the city’s roadways. Officers caught two young drivers disobeying rules and laid charges.

The first incident on Jan. 6, officials caught a G2 driver going 141 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Limebank Road.

The 18-year-old now faces a stunt driving charge, a 30-day licence suspension, a 14-day vehicle impound and a court date.

“Not the start to 2025 any parent would want,” police said in a post on X. “Assuming a conversation will be had around the kitchen table this evening.”

The second incident involving a G2 driver came a day later on Jan. 7.

Officials noted that passing vehicles at “nearly double the speed limit” in cold weather conditions is “a recipe for disaster.”

Police were able to stop the driver going 158 km/h in a 80 km/h zone on Limebank Road before anything further could happen.

The driver faces the same penalties as the teen caught on the same road a day prior.
