Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say one person was killed in a crash that’s closed Highway 17 between Pembroke and Cobden Tuesday morning.
The provincial transportation ministry and OPP first posted about the road closure between White Water Road east of Pembroke and Cobden’s Main Street around 3:30 and 3:40 a.m.
Police followed up around 7 a.m. to say one person had died and the highway was expected to be closed for at least the morning. There’s no mention of other injuries.
The crash happened around Mountain and Cornerview roads in Whitewater Township, according to an OPP spokesperson.
That’s about 17 kilometres southeast of downtown Pembroke and 105 kilometres west of downtown Ottawa.
About 23 kilometres of the highway, which is part of the Trans-Canada Highway, are closed. Possible detours include taking Beachburg and Foresters Falls roads east of the 17 or taking Highway 41 and Micksburg Road to the west.
