Ottawa firefighters managed to stop a fire that was already spreading to the grass and headed to neighbouring properties in a neighbourhood just west of Stittsville on Saturday afternoon.
Ottawa Fire Services received multiple calls to a home on Sawgrass Circle near the Canadian Golf and Country Club at about 12:30 p.m.

Callers, including the homeowner, reported heavy smoke and flames. Due to the heavy black smoke visible from a distance and the reports from callers, a working fire was declared while firefighters were on the way.
Crews arrived on scene and immediately began operations. Firefighters managed to stop the spread to neighbouring homes.
The fire is believed to have originated in the kitchen of the home. An Ottawa Fire Investigator has been dispatched to the scene to determine the origin and cause of the blaze.
