Firefighters rescue person trapped in car in Rideau River

A fire service team rescued a person who was trapped inside a vehicle in the Rideau River early Sunday.

Ottawa police alerted the fire service at about 3:35 a.m. that a vehicle had been located in the river near Osgoode.

Fire services quickly located the vehicle in the water, the running lights visible.

The ice rescue specialists set up at the scene, and the victim was rescued at about 3:55 p.m.

Ottawa Paramedic Service confirmed they treated a patient for hypothermia and transported the victim to hospital.
