The suspect in a mid-September assault in Sandy Hill has been identified, Ottawa police announced on Thursday.

The assault occurred just before 6 p.m. on Sept. 19 during a demonstration in the 200 block on Charlotte Street, police had disclosed in early November, when they issued a call for public assistance in identifying the suspect.

The original news release at that time said the suspect, a man, had been aggressive, spitting at vehicles and some people who were leaving a business. He left the scene before police officers arrived that day.

The updated release issued Jan. 23 did not disclose whether the unidentified man had been charged by police.
