Two-vehicle collision leaves one trapped underneath

Ottawa Fire Services safely extricated a trapped driver from underneath their vehicle following a two-vehicle collision Friday.

Shortly after 8:15 p.m., Ottawa Fire Services received a call from police requesting they come to the intersection of Ramsayville Road and Ridge Road, in the east end of Ottawa. Once there they confirmed a driver was trapped underneath a vehicle with all four wheels in a treed area.

The driver was trapped face down by the engine compartment.

Firefighters used chainsaws to clear the bush from around the vehicle before stabilizing it and beginning the extrication process. Lift bags were used and the front driver’s side wheel was removed to gain access to the trapped person.

As the vehicle was lifted, responders used cribbing under the vehicle to prevent it from dropping back down.

The driver was safely extricated at 8:51 p.m.

Firefighters disconnected the batteries for both vehicles before clearing the scene and leaving it in control of Ottawa police.

The cause of the collision has not been reported.
