OPP investigating fatal motorcycle-SUV collision in Russell

The Russell County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police is investigating a fatal collision between a motorcycle and a sport utility vehicle in Russell late Wednesday.

The unidentified motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision at about 9:30 p.m. on Craig Street, west of Hamilton Road. The driver of the SUV was transported to hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening, a news release on Thursday said.

The motorcyclist had a suspended driver’s licence, the release added.

The fatal collision in Russell was the second involving a motorcyclist in the Ottawa area within the past week. On Monday, the Ottawa Police Service announced the death of a 24-year-old man whose motorcycle had collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Prince of Wales and Rideau Valley drives in Ottawa’s south end on May 10.

Craig Street between Hamilton Road and Boundary Road remained closed until early Thursday morning.
