Doors Open Ottawa: Event allows public inside buildings usually closed off

The City of Ottawa’s annual Doors Open event is offering the public a glimpse into more than 100 buildings that are usually closed off.

On June 1 and 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., people can stroll through embassies, breweries, churches, museums and historical buildings across Ottawa. Tours will showcase the stories behind the structures and dive deeper into the cultural importance of architecture in the nation’s capital.

The city is asking people to register for the higher-demand buildings such as the Diefenbunker, Chaudière Falls, British High Commission, Cancer Research Lab, Embassy of Hungary to Canada/ Birkett Castle, Embassy of the United States of America, French Embassy in Canada and the Ingenium Centre.

The full list of participating buildings can be found here.

Buildings in every corner of the city are open for people to explore, with downtown shuttle buses available for people to access many of the sites.

The event first debuted in 2002 with nearly 80 buildings and 35,000 visitors.

This year participants can tour both in-person and virtually through in-depth descriptions and 3D visual tours.
