Weather office predicting one-day ‘heat event’ with high up up 32 C

Ottawa is expected to sweat through what Environment Canada is calling 2024’s first “one-day heat event” Wednesday.

Starting early in the afternoon, the mercury will climb to a high of 31-32 C. Skies are expected to be clear.

“These conditions pose a health risk when you are not used to the heat,” the weather agency said.

“Everyone is at risk from heat, especially older adults; infants and young children; and people with chronic illnesses.

The hot conditions are expected to include Brockville and Leeds, Grenville areas.

The weather office urges people to “drink plenty of cool liquids before feeling thirsty; and keep cool by dressing for the weather and spending more time in a cool place.”

Temperatures are expected to drop to about 20 C overnight and remain at that level through the day Thursday.

Showers are also predicted late in the day Thursday. with a high Thursday of 22 C.

That kicks off a cool five-day swing of showers and daily highs of  about 15029 C.
