Rideau Transit Maintenance believes the wintry weather is to blame for a stopped train that led to hours-long delays for commuters Thursday morning.
A statement from Renée Amilcar, General Manager of the Transit Services Department, says an O-Train was travelling westbound before 6:10 a.m. when a technical issue caused it to halt at Bayview station.
Technicians were sent out to troubleshoot, and service was forced to operate on a single track.
The train eventually had to be removed from the line, and full service resumed before 9:30 a.m.
RTM says it will continue to investigate, but it believes wet snow and a drop in temperatures overnight impacted the train-control system.
It has deployed crews to clear snow and ice from track-side equipment by hand.
Transit officials say the weather was also responsible for a bus sliding off the roadway in the city’s east end.
Around 6:40 a.m. Thursday, emergency crews responded to Frank Kenny Road.
No other vehicles were involved, and no passengers were on board.
Transit riders are being told to expect delays as the weather continues to be challenging.
