Paddle boarders rescued from Deschênes Rapids: Ottawa Fire

A pair of paddle boarders were brought safely back to shore by Ottawa firefighters on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Water Rescue Team, the paddle boarders were caught in the Deschênes Rapids and were unable to escape.

Firefighters located the two holding on to the rear of the boards “completely exhausted.” Both people were wearing lifejackets, the post on X from Ottawa fire reads.

“The paddle boarders told our Water Rescue Techs that they spent 15 minutes trying to paddle their out of the rapids before running out of energy,” the post says.

The boards and the people were back to shore by 6:43 p.m. with no injuries.

“Credit to both these individuals for wearing their life jackets, otherwise this outcome could have been much different,” fire crews say.
