One-day ‘heat event’ in Ottawa poses health risks

Ottawans were sweating through what Environment Canada called 2024’s first “one-day heat event” Wednesday.

The weather office forecast stated that, starting early in the afternoon, the mercury would climb to a high of 31-32 C with the skies clear.

By 4 p.m., the temperature had reached a high (to that point) of 31 C with a humidex of 36.

“These conditions pose a health risk when you are not used to the heat,” the weather agency said.
