Impaired charges laid against man caught operating e-bike on Highway 417

A man stopped while operating an electric-powered motorbike on Highway 417 has been arrested.

Members of the Ottawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped the individual in the east end shortly after 5 p.m. on Monday, June 10.

Officers determined the e-bike operator was impaired by alcohol and an arrest was made.

Serguei Petrov, 41, of Ottawa, faces the following charges:

  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation While Prohibited
  • Motorcycle Driven by Electricity on Controlled-Access Highway
  • Driving While Under Suspension

Petrov also received a 90-day driving prohibition and the e-bike was impounded for 45 days.

Petrov is set to appear in court on July 5, 2024.
