Ottawa firefighter helps kitten caught on fishing hook

A rookie firefighter proved to have very steady hands while coming to the aid of a local kitten this week.

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) responded to the 100 block of Maple Lane around 1 a.m. on Thursday after a 5-month-old kitten named Sammy had a three-pronged fishing hook with a swivel hooked into his nose.

It took a probationary firefighter about 20 minutes to safely remove the hook from Sammy’s nose using side cutters.

Sammy was cleaned up and OFS has been told he is doing great and back to his old self.
