‘Erratic’ driver arrested for impaired driving in Embrun

On July 20, OPP in Russell arrested a motorist for impaired driving and other charges.

Following numerous calls concerning an erratic driver on Highway 417 — near mile marker 417 — officers responded around 8:55 p.m., said Russell OPP.

Callers described a blue Mazda CX5, travelling west bound, consistently flashing it’s high-beams, OPP wrote in a Twitter (X) post.

The driver stopped in a live lane causing other vehicles to use the shoulder to avoid the vehicle, added OPP.

Complainants also provided police with the vehicle’s license plate number.

The vehicle was later found in the drive thru of the Embrun McDonalds.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle — but the driver fled, nearly striking a police vehicle head on.

During the investigation, police were able identify and contact the driver, and the accused agreed to turn themselves in.

According to Russell OPP, officers also located the suspect vehicle parked on a street in a neighbourhood, close by.

Following an investigation, police charged a 22-year-old, from Embrun, Ontario with:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Flight from peace officer
  • Dangerous operation
  • Driver motor vehicle – no license

While the vehicle has been impounded for 45 days, the accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on August 28, 2024.
