OC Transpo’s Special Constable Unit have charged two men, following hate-motivated incidents that took place on July 1.
While riding the transit system, two suspects made racial slurs and threats towards a family around 7:30 p.m., the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) said in a press release.
The male suspects proceeded to assault an adult, who then sustained injuries. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital.
Suspects were later located by OC Transpo Special Constables. Officials conducted an investigation, with the assistance of the Ottawa Police Hate and Bias Crime Unit.
Pauloosie Ipeelie, 27, and David J. Amagoalik, 26, have been charged with assault. Both suspects are set to appear in court early August.
Police are asking anyone who witness or experience hate-motivated incidents, to contact OPS.
“Reporting hate-motivated incidents is an important step in stopping cycles of hatred,” OPS said in a press release.
OC Transpo customers who witness or are victims of a crime on transit property are encouraged to submit an incident report by calling 613-741-2478 or by visiting octranspo.com.
