The game is the first for both teams in the Paris 2024 tournament.
Canada will be without head coach Bev Priestman, who removed herself from the opening match following revelations that a “non-accredited” staff member used an aerial device to record the New Zealand team during practice.
Canada Soccer announced Thursday that defender Jayde Riviere will miss the team’s opening game against New Zealand. Riviere suffered an ankle injury in a July 17 closed-door, tune-up match against Nigeria. Shelina Zadorsky will replace Riviere. In that same July 17 match, Canada also lost defender Sydney Collins for the entire Olympics with a fractured left leg. Gabrielle Carle will replace Collins on the defence.
Canada’s next match comes against France on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET.
The Canadians wrap their group-stage play with a meeting versus Colombia on Wednesday, July 31st, at 3 p.m. ET.
