Girl, 16, taken to hospital after pepper spray incident at Rideau Centre

A 16-year-old girl was taken to hospital Saturday night after an incident involving pepper spray at the Rideau Centre.

Ottawa firefighters reported that they received a 9-1-1 call at about 8:30 p.m. about multiple people experiencing sudden illness and difficulty breathing and that evacuation of the building had started. 

The Ottawa Fire HazMat team was dispatched to the scene, suited up and entered the building take readings. It was confirmed that substance was pepper spray and the area was ventilated by building staff and firefighters. 

Paramedics says only one person , a 16-year-old girl, was taken to hospital in stable condition.
