Ottawa police investigators have determined that a fatal fire in the east end Wednesday was not of criminal origin.

One person was found deceased at the fire in the 600 block of  Clarke Avenue.

Police said at the time there was “no obvious sign of criminality,” but they were assisting fire investigators to determine how the fire started and the cause of death of the victim.

Greg Wilson, sergeant with the Ottawa police arson unit, told reporters at the scene that police were working in tandem with the fire department and the provincial Office of the Fire Marshal as well as Ontario’s chief coroner.

The case is now being investigated as a sudden death.
