Ottawa firefighters were able to bring two people and two cats to safety after a rollover on Highway 417 early Sunday morning.

The fire service received a call from the OPP at 4:25 a.m. informing it of the crash at the 417 and Panmure Road.

After arriving at the scene, fire crews found the vehicle on its side in the centre median with two occupants trapped inside. The area was treed, and chainsaws were used to gain access to the vehicle. It was stabilized, allowing the extrication process to begin at 4:44.

After being removed from the vehicle, the occupants told firefighters that two cats were still in the vehicle, and crews were able to locate them and get them out, too.
