Body of a man found in Lake Clear after 9.5-hour-long search

After a day-long search, emergency responders have found the body of a 27-year-old man in Lake Clear in the Bonnechere Valley Township.

According to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) a man was swimming and jumping off rocks on Sunday morning with a group of people. Police tell CityNews this happened on private property. The man disappeared beneath the surface and onlookers called 9-1-1 around 9:30 a.m.

Paramedics from the Renfrew County Service and police arrived shortly after and conducted a search with boats, including one from a local. Firefighters from the Bonnechere Valley Fire Department used a drone to scan the water from above.

OPP’s Underwater Search and Recovery Unit was called to the scene where they found the man’s body shortly after 7:00 p.m.

A post-mortem will be conducted to confirm the cause of death.
