Homicide unit investigating fatal shooting in Herongate mall parking lot

The homicide unit of the Ottawa Police Service is investigating a fatal shooting in a mall parking lot after a man died of his injuries Thursday night.

Police responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of Heron and Walkley roads just after 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Upon arrival, officers found a man with critical injuries inside a vehicle. They administered CPR and paramedics transported him to hospital, where he died of his injuries, police said.

On Friday, police identified the victim as Ahmed Salim-Al-Badri, 34, of Ottawa.

Photos taken at the scene Thursday evening show yellow police tape strung across the parking lot in front of a pet store at the Herongate Square shopping centre. A small white sedan sat parked nearby with its driver-side door open and debris on the pavement.
