The City of Ottawa is alerting residents to the closure of O-Train Line 1, and a road closure at Hunt Club and Riverside beginning this weekend into next week.
The southbound right-turn lane on Riverside Drive at Hunt Club Road will close overnight and during the weekend, the city wrote in a news release.
Road work related to the Hunt Club Road and Riverside Drive intersection modifications project will take place at the following dates and times:
- From 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26 until 6:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27
- From 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27 until 6:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 30
- From 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 30 until 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1
- From 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3 until 6:30 a.m. on Friday, Oc. 4
“These closures are required to facilitate the reconstruction of the southbound right-turn channels for active transportation crossings and improved cycling safety,” wrote the municipality.
The City is asking residents to be aware of signage and construction flagging and pedestrians will be re-routed to the east sidewalk to cross Hunt Club Road. During this construction period, cyclists should merge into traffic and take a lane or walk their bike using the pedestrian crossing.
Ottawa is suggesting drivers use alternate routes, including Hog’s Back Road or Earl Armstrong Road/Vimy Memorial Bridge to cross the Rideau River.

LRT closure this weekend
O-Train Line 1 service between Tunney’s Pasture and Blair stations will not run on Sunday, Sept. 29 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., as well as the full day on Saturday, October 5, wrote the City of Ottawa.
O-Train service will resume around noon on September 29th and during this pause, R1 replacement bus service will be available every eight minutes from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. between the stations.
On Saturday, Oct. 5, R1 replacement bus service will be offered every eight minutes from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. between Tunney’s Pasture and Blair stations.
A shuttle bus service will also be offered every 15 minutes between St-Laurent and Cyrville stations and every 30 minutes between Lees Station and Mackenzie King Bridge.
During O-Train Line 1 closures, communications and computer systems integrating the Stage 2 East Extension with the Line 1 system will be tested, said the city.
While this work cannot be completed overnight, residents could see trains running on Line 1 as a part of testing.
“To allow this important Stage 2 work to advance, every effort is being made to minimize disruptions to customers,” it said.
