Ottawa businessman faces sex assault charges following woman’s ‘job interview’

A 37-year-old Ottawa man has been charged with two counts of sexual assault and one of forcible confinement following an investigation by the Ottawa Police Services’ sexual assault and child abuse unit.

According to a release, police charged a man following an investigation into sexual assaults at businesses he owned and said they believed there could be more victims.

Police said the female victim applied for a job in 2024 at a business owned by the accused. The accused insisted the job interview be done in his vehicle.

Once in the vehicle, police said he drove her to “a secluded location.” He allegedly prevented her from leaving the vehicle and sexually assaulted her.

Canpolat Sahin, 37, of Ottawa has been charged with two counts of sexual assault and one count of forcible confinement.

He was scheduled to appear in court Thursday.

“As Sahin owns multiple businesses, Polat Construction and Azra Turkish Restaurant, investigators believe there could be other victims,” police said in the release.
