Leeds OPP officers and Leeds and Grenville Paramedics responded to a call reporting a crash involving a personal watercraft Sunday just before 6 a.m.
After searching the area just west of the Thousand Islands Bridge, between the mainland and Hill Island, first responders located a 21-year old male, the driver of the boat, without vital signs. The man was brought to the shore and pronounced dead on scene.
It is believed the single personal watercraft, which had two people on board, collided with an obstacle during the night. The passenger was able to swim to shore and call for help.
The deceased individual’s name will not be released.
The investigation is in its early stages, with assistance from the OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit, and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner. Police are asking that anyone who may have witnessed the collision or have any information, contact Leeds County OPP at 1-888-310-1122 and refer to incident E241337329.
