Supporters showed up in force Sunday for CHEO’s RBC Race for the Kids event, raising $830,000.

This brings the eight-year total to close to $4 million.

“Knowing the funds we raised today will help support children and youth for generations to come makes this profoundly impactful,” said Steve Read, president and CEO of the CHEO Foundation, in a statement.

“It’s critical that young people get access to the help they need,” said race chair Devinder Gill, regional president for personal and commercial Banking at RBC.

Funds from RBC Race for the Kids will help to equip CHEO with the funding necessary to undergo a major 10-year project to renovate and expand its operations, organizers noted.

The first phase of the campaign includes building a state-of-the-art facility on the CHEO’s Smyth Road campus.

The facility will merge seven separate care locations across Ottawa into a single, purpose-built site.
