Three children, driver hospitalized in school bus collision

Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a two-vehicle collision between a school bus and another vehicle that injured three school children and their bus driver.

The collision happened Monday afternoon shortly before 4:15 p.m., on Route 400 at MacDonald Road in Russell, Ont.

“Preliminary investigation indicates that a school bus attempted to enter the highway and collided with an eastbound transport truck on Route 400,” Russell County OPP said in a statement.

Along with the driver of the school bus, there were three children on board. All four were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The code orange was lifted as of 7:05 p.m. Monday, CHEO said in a statement. The three children continue to receive medical care at the hospital.

The driver of the other vehicle was not injured, police said.

OPP closed a section of Route 400 Monday afternoon. It was still closed as of Monday evening for police and emergency crews to investigate.
