Two people have been charged after a stolen vehicle ended up in a ditch along Highway 7.
Officers from provincial police responded to a dangerous driving complaint just after 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday in the Tweed, Ont. area.
Police located the vehicle and watched it for a short time before trying to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle sped away at “extremely high speeds.” Officers did not pursue the vehicle due to public safety.
However, a short time later the minivan was found in a ditch along the highway. Two people were found in the vehicle along with traces of methamphetamine and drug-use paraphernalia. Both were transported to hospital as a precaution and then returned to police custody.
A 16-year-old female is charged with:
- Dangerous operation of a vehicle
- Flight from a peace officer
- Theft of a vehicle
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
- Fail to comply with a probation order
A 22-year-old male is charged with:
- Possession of property obtained by crime
- Fail to comply with a probation order – two counts
- Failure to comply with a release order
Both will remain in custody until a bail hearing in Belleville.
