An investigator has been called to determine the cause of a stubborn fire overnight at an apartment building in the 200 block of Bruyère Street, in the ByWard Market area.

Firefighters were called at about 11:30 p.m. and found the fire fully engaged.

The fire service called for additional staff and equipment as two floors were already affected by the flames.

With reinforcements responding to the second alarm, crews launched a fast attack. That included efforts to protect adjacent buildings due to concerns the blaze would spread.

The fire was declared under control at 12:39 a.m. Sunday.

An OC Transpo bus and victim services were at for shelter and support.

It’s not known whether tenants will be displaced.

There were no reports of injuries.
