One person has died in an overnight fire in Cornwall, Ont., city officials say.
Crews with the Cornwall Fire Service were called to a home on Walton Street at around 3:50 a.m. Monday, according to a media release sent later in the day.
Firefighters initially didn’t see any signs of fire, but when they searched the property they found both smoke and flames and one person dead inside the home.
The victim’s next-of-kin have been notified. No other details about their identity are being released at this time, the city said.
The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office will be investigating to determine the cause of the fire.
Residents should make sure their smoke alarms are working properly and that they have an emergency escape plan in place, the fire service said.
