One person is dead and three others are injured following a head-on collision on Highway 417 in rural west Ottawa.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say the crash happened around 9:30 a.m. after a driver crossed the centre median of the highway and crashed head-on into another vehicle.

Ottawa paramedics confirmed one person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three others were injured, they said, including a woman in critical condition and a woman and infant girl each in serious but stable condition.

Highway 417 was closed in both directions from County Road 29 to Kinburn Side Road for the OPP investigation. Eastbound lanes had reopened by 1:50 p.m., while westbound lanes remained closed.

The crash happened about 40 kilometres west of downtown Ottawa and 10 kilometres southwest of Arnprior.
