Police say one person has died after two vehicles crashed and caught fire on County Road 17 Tuesday afternoon.

Police say one person has died after two vehicles crashed and caught fire east of Hawkesbury, Ont., Tuesday afternoon. 

In an email, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) spokesperson Bill Dickson said the crash happened just before 5 p.m. on County Road 17 between Tupper Street and Golf Club Road. 

Both vehicles caught fire and one person was pronounced dead at the scene, Dickson said. 

“Others were taken to hospital with varying degrees of injuries,” he said, adding at least one patient was transferred to an Ottawa trauma centre.

According to the OPP, the road will remain closed for several hours as police investigate.
