One person is dead and five others injured after a crash on Highway 7 in Sharbot Lake, Ont., late Monday evening, say Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
In a news release Tuesday, OPP said officers with the Frontenac detachment responded to the collision just after 11:30 p.m., close to Arden Road.
“There was heavy damage to both vehicles, with one leaving the highway, coming to rest down a steep embankment,” OPP said.
Police said two people were in a sedan travelling eastbound and four people in a sport utility vehicle travelling westbound. One passenger had to be extricated from the SUV, OPP said.
The five injured patients were taken to various hospitals in the region with serious injuries.
The highway was closed overnight for about eight hours and no charges have been laid, OPP said.
Sharbot Lake is about 75 kilometres north of Kingston, Ont.
