1 killed, 1 hurt in Saint-André-Avellin crash

Just after 1 a.m. on Thursday, a driver swerved off the road in Saint-André-Avellin and hit a culvert. The driver sustained injuries but is in stable condition, while the passenger died in the hospital.

One person has died and one was injured in an overnight crash in Saint-André-Avellin, Que.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) said a 60-year-old woman lost control of her vehicle around 1:15 a.m. on Thursday and swerved into a ditch.

She and her lone passenger, a man in his 70s, were both taken to the hospital.

The man died in the hospital, police said. The woman was left with serious injuries.

Northbound traffic on route 321 was closed as collision experts investigate. The SQ said the road is open again.  

The crash happened about 60 kilometres northeast of downtown Gatineau.
