2nd-degree murder charge after Gatineau’s 3rd homicide of 2024

A 56-year-old Gatineau man is facing a second-degree murder charge for the death of a man found injured on boulevard des Allumettières Thursday morning.

Emergency crews were called to the scene near rue Saint-Rédempteur around 6:15 a.m. where they found the man with injuries “suggesting he had been the victim of an assault,” Gatineau police said in the original news release.

They later said it appeared he had been shot.

The man, later identified as 35-year-old Maxim Bourgon-Frigon, was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Friday morning, police announced they had arrested a 56-year-old man and 41-year-old woman.

On Friday afternoon they said they’d released the woman. The man, identified as Philippe Cyr, is facing a second-degree murder charge.
