3 children, driver hospitalized in school bus collision

Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a two-vehicle collision between a school bus and another vehicle that injured three school children and their bus driver. 

The collision happened Monday shortly before 4:15 p.m. on Route 400 at MacDonald Road in Russell.

According to police, the school bus collided with an eastbound transport truck.

Along with the driver of the school bus, there were three children on board. All four were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Paramedics brought the three children to Ottawa’s children’s hospital shortly after the collision, according to a statement released by CHEO. The hospital declared a code orange, “which is called to bring together resources to respond to a potential disaster or mass casualty incident.”

The code orange was lifted as of 7:05 p.m. Monday, CHEO said in a statement. The three children continue to receive medical care at the hospital.

The driver of the other vehicle was not injured, police said. 

OPP closed a section of Route 400 for police and emergency crews to investigate.
