Canadian hammer thrower Ethan Katzberg captures commanding men’s Olympic title

Ethan Katzberg of Nanaimo, B.C., dominated the men’s hammer throw final on Sunday to capture the Olympic title.

The 22-year-old Canadian, who is unbeaten in 2024, posted the winning throw of 84.12 in his first attempt. Hungary’s Bence Halasz only managed a 79.97-metre throw for silver.

Canada’s last Olympic hammer throw medal came 112 years ago, when Duncan Gillis claimed silver in Stockholm 1912.

Ukraine Mykhaylo Kokhan (79.39) earned bronze. Canada’s Rowan Hamilton (76.59) finished ninth.
