A six-year-old girl has died after she was hit by a pickup truck in Tweed, Ont.
Emergency crews were called to Jamieson Street West shortly after 1:30 p.m. Sunday, according to a news release from Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
Bystanders, including an off-duty nurse, attempted CPR before paramedics arrived, police said.
She was rushed to hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Tweed is approximately 190 kilometres southwest of downtown Ottawa.
The crash was the second fatality involving a child over the Labour Day long weekend in eastern Ontario.
A 14-year-old girl was killed Friday after she was struck by a car while riding her bicycle on the westbound shoulder of County Road 2 west of Long Sault, just outside Cornwall.
OPP continue to investigate both incidents and are issuing yet another warning to drivers as children prepare to go back to school on Tuesday.
“Young children may be very excited and not paying attention the way they should be,” said OPP spokesperson Bill Dickson. “Drivers have a responsibility to watch the road and keep everyone safe.”
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the Tweed crash or who may have dashcam footage of it to contact them at 1-888-310-1122, referencing incident E241170006.
