A transport truck crashed and caught fire on Highway 401 as it passed through Belleville early Thursday morning, according to Ontario Provincial Police. An eastbound lane reopened early in the afternoon after Highway 37.
Entire highway was closed for hours Thursday morning
A transport truck crashed and caught fire on Highway 401 as it passed through Belleville, Ont., early Thursday morning, according to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
OPP said in a post on X the single-vehicle crash happened around 4:30 a.m. between Highway 37 and Shannonville Road. The truck driver was not injured.
Earlier, OPP reported a vehicle on fire at the crash scene and posted photos suggesting the truck was heavily damaged by flames.
The highway was initially closed in both directions. Westbound lanes reopened around 9:15 a.m. and one of the two eastbound lanes reopened around 1 p.m.
