Homicide unit investigating fatal shooting in mall parking lot

The homicide unit of the Ottawa Police Service is investigating a fatal shooting in a mall parking lot after a man died of his injuries Thursday night.

Police responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of Heron and Walkley roads just after 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Upon arrival, officers found a man in his 30s with critical injuries inside a vehicle. They administered CPR and paramedics transported him to hospital, where he died of his injuries, police said.

Photos taken at the scene Thursday evening show yellow police tape strung across the parking lot in front of a pet store at the Herongate Square shopping centre. A small white sedan sat parked nearby with its driver-side door open and debris on the pavement.
